Spank my bottom and call me gimpy, Ryan Reynolds FINALLY had something to say about his role in Green Lantern and Deadpool! Before we get started with what was said let’s state the obvious, how does one man get the role of two spectacular characters, one a hero and one an anti hero in the same year? I know Reynolds is an exceptional actor, but having him play one DC character and one Marvel character has to make you think it will dilute one of the characters and draw harsh comparisons. Unfortunately, with Warner Brothers and DC’s record with superhero properties the Marvel character, Deadpool, will probably be the most memorable as well as the better done movie.

O.K. back to the story, Reynolds sat down with MTV and had this to say when asked about Green Lantern:

 ”I fell in love with the character when I met with Martin Campbell. When I sat down with him, I really got what it is that this guy is all about. When you have a guy like Martin Campbell, part of his charm is that he has balls of titanium, and the other part is that he’s slightly crazy, and you have to be to take on something with the scope of Green Lantern.”

Reynolds talked about the past year and described it as one of “the most unbelievable” of his life and picked out seeing the prototypes for the Green Lantern costume as “a huge moment”.

Reynolds, who seems to have a firm grasp on the pulse of the Fanboys out there, also shared how he felt about how the deadpool character was portrayed in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. “I thought it was a nice little wink and tip of the hat to things to come.” “I had a kind of ham-fisted attitude that it had to be perfect, but it doesn’t. The movies called Wolverine, it’s not called Deadpool or Wade.”

Not much to go on about Deadpool, but great news for Green Lantern. Reynolds is a perfect example of how actors in Hollywood are starting to covet and take serious the roles of superheros. For year’s original and fantastic stories have been sitting on comic store shelves just waiting to be told on the silver screen. Over the last six years Hollywood has had just a taste of the good fortune these stories, when done properly, can make HUGE profits and gain critical acclaim (Ironman). Hopefully, we can expect bigger and better.
